Kenyan bloggers need to get out of their blogger accounts. I have been educated in the past 3 months since we started this Kenyan community project that Kenyan Bloggers are some of the best in the world. Some I do not like some are simply fantastic to go to. However, I realized that more than 90% of Kenyan blogs are owned by Google.

It is a sad state of affairs to see nearly all Kenyan blogs having a page rank of 4 and above and yet they earn not a single cent for their hard work. 90% are in blogger accounts and a few more in WordPress accounts. If you have a free blogger account, you should leave it and get your own hosted account.

Your Web Content is Your Property

I know most Kenyans like going for the latest fads in investing. Every Kenyan wants to own a farm, or a house, and even buy Safaricom shares. Kenyan bloggers have forgotten that the best property they have is their own content.

If you have a free host on blogger ,your content is owned by Google. If you have a great free hosted site on Google, TypePad or WordPress, you do not own the rights to your content. You might wake up one day and if Google does not like your content, pooof , you will lose all your 3 yrs of hard work.

Web content is more than beautiful poems on the Internet. It is property that you own.

Your Domain Name is Property

If you have a blogger account, you do not own your domain. A domain is just as much property as a house. If you have a well recognized domain name, you will probably sell it at high price. However, having it on a free domain means that you do not own it and are likely making money for someone else.

You will not be the first person to be banned from your free hosting and you come back to find someone else using your domain name for profit.

Paid Reviews and Advertising

Most people do not understand why they are given a free hosting account by Google. They use it to serve their Adwords .You may not know it but some of the ads served on your own blog are run by Google. You can not even have advertising in some platforms like WordPress. So how are you supposed to earn online with free hosting solutions?

If you do not have your own bought domain name or have your own hosted domain, you are losing a great opportunity to earn online. For those with page rank 4 and above Kenyan blogs, you are broke for nothing.

If you need to get a free domain and hosting for a period , please join the Kenyans Online Group. I will be willing to even move your content from your free host to your new hosted platform if you are nice to me.

Pea April 27, 2008 Votes: +0	this is true... however, part of the reason for high page ranks while on blogger/wordpress is the blog hosts themselves. when you switch from blogger/wordpress to self-hosting, it takes ages to get the page rank up again, even with the recommended steps. it's a great idea to self-host, though; more options, and it's not THAT expensive if you get the right hosting. great post!! report abuse vote down vote up
